about

This is a stripped-back, raw version of ‘Take Me Home’ which is a song about longing for a place of comfort and safety after experiencing a period of turbulence. It charts the emotions that can be felt along the road to regaining independence and control, including fear and anger, but also hope. The song is both introspective and forward-looking, and exists in the space between what has been and what is to come, with the end goal being to arrive ‘home.’

lyrics

Pain riddled bones
Hide in the skin that I stole
From my mother
Still not broken it in

Scream in the night
What kind of woman
Is frightened by moonlight?
Now that it’s pouring in

They built me for war
Built me to bleed
But I’m scared of the dark
And I’m scared of the trees
Too afraid of myself
And my shadow to be
On my own

Take me home,
Take me home,

Took all the words
And I set them on fire
Like you told me
Now there’s smoke in my eyes

Clearing the air
I saw all the torture laid bare
Then I woke with
Only blood on my mind

He built me for war
Built me to bleed
I was scared of the dark
Now I’m scared of the trees
Too afraid of myself
And my shadow to be
On my own

He called out my name
And said I was free
To have all that I want
Be whatever I dreamed
But my dreams weren’t a place
That I wanted to be
On my own

Take me home,
Take me home,
Take me home,
Take me home

Pain riddled bones
Hide in the skin that I stole
From my mother
Still not broken it in
